Do We HAVE to discuss this?
Long term care, perhaps in a nursing home, is something we all would rather not think about too much. But is that wise?
With the average cost of nursing home care approaching $75,000 per year, and round-the-clock home care exceeding that, these costs represent a major risk to many of us.
There are two classes of folks who don’t need to worry about this. First are those with the financial resources to pay this kind of expense without affecting the lifestyle of the loved ones around us. Secondly, those with modest savings who will spend down their assets quickly and be cared for under Medicare (AHCCCS in Arizona). If you are in either of these categories, you can quit reading and take the night off.
The rest should heed the old adage to insure the things you can’t afford to have happen to you.
